Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz today (Thursday) addressed Prime Minister Yair Lapid and Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman demanding an urgent discussion conference to initiate an outline for shortening intern shifts.

In his letter, the Minister of Health states that, despite an explicit agreement between the Ministers of Finance, Health and Economy, the budget department at the Ministry of Finance refused to outline the shortening of shifts, and did not transfer the promised budget to the Ministry of Health.

protest of the interns,

"The interns are left with the reality of unreasonable employment conditions and severe disappointment. It is not too late to make amends.

To ensure that the shortening of shifts is not postponed once again, preparations must begin immediately, where the allocation of devices to the hospitals is a first and necessary step.

In addition, shifts can be started and shortened in many departments even before the permit comes into effect."

Minister Horowitz also added: "All that is required is that the government fulfills its commitment and the treasury allocates the standards required to start the plan.

The employment of interns for 26 hours in a row harms the normal functioning and treatment of patients.

The interns' protest expresses real distress.

It is our duty to make every effort to answer it here and now.

I request that we meet as soon as possible to examine the options facing the government at this time, and to form an agreement that will lead to an actual start of shortening the shifts immediately."

The interns protested in front of the High Court: "This dangerous employment must be brought to an end"

As I recall, more than 500 female and male specialist doctors from all hospitals have already signed letters of resignation, demanding to implement the order to shorten the 26-hour shifts, which was agreed between the government ministers.

In the "Registration" organization, they chose a phased resignation both out of a desire to minimize harm to patients and as part of a long-term struggle.

More protests, demonstrations and strikes are expected in the coming month.

Dr. Ray Beaton, chairman of the interns' organization "Mersham", addressed Prime Minister Lapid, Minister of Economy Barbibai and Minister of Finance Lieberman: "The letters of resignation that are now being submitted with a trembling hand constitute an indictment of neglect. The government made a clear decision to abandon the interns and the system Public health. This is a struggle of all the citizens of the country who do not want to be treated by doctors who have been on their feet for 22 hours. This is a moral and value obligation towards us and towards the public and that you have made a commitment."
