A man killed a woman with an ax in Berlin-Lichtenberg.
He was shot by police who tried to stop him.
When the officers arrived on Löwenberger Strasse around 8 a.m. on Sunday morning, the man hit a woman lying on the ground with an ax, a police spokesman said.
The police then fired shots at the man, fatally injuring him.
The woman also succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
The police initially did not provide any information on the exact identity of the two people.
A homicide detective is investigating.
