A four-person private jet bound for Germany unjustifiably entered Swedish airspace and crashed off the coast of the city of Ventspils, Latvia.
This was reported by the Swedish authorities
The plane had departed this afternoon from Jerez in southern Spain and headed for Cologne, Germany.
Arriving in German airspace, however, he did not respond to the air traffic controllers and entered Swedish airspace, before heading east.
German authorities have repeatedly tried to contact the pilots and passengers on board, without obtaining a response.
German fighters approached the plane to try to understand what was happening.
"The hope was to make contact with the crew, but they didn't see anyone in the cabin," Swedish air rescue chief Lars Antonsson told TT agency.
The aircraft, a Cessna 551 registered in Austria, continued to fly on autopilot as it continued north east into the Baltic Sea.
And around 19:45 local time, after presumably running out of fuel, he crashed into the sea.
Rescue vehicles were sent to the area.
