It's hard to say goodbye to your beloved four-legged friend.
But some of them can be expected to be by their side for a very long time.
Here are the longest-lived breeds.
How old a dog gets depends on many factors.
There is the genetic component, but race, proper care and species-appropriate husbandry also play a part.
Is the animal rather smaller or is it larger?
After all, it is well known that small dogs generally live much longer than their larger counterparts.

If a dog is also physically very fit and gets a lot of exercise, this can also protect it from old age diseases, train its heart and let it live longer.

Dog age: Depends on weight for mixed breeds

However, the record is held by an Australian Cattle Dog named "Bluey", who was born in 1910 and died at the age of 29 years and 160 days.
This is amazing given that Australian Cattle Dogs have an average life expectancy of 14 years and he has doubled that.
