(ANSA) - ROME, SEPTEMBER 05 - A Russian court has sentenced journalist Ivan Safronov to 22 years in prison: Novaya Gazeta Europe reports.
Safronov was accused of high treason in a closed-door trial, but many observers believe the accusations are clearly unfair and that the arrest was linked to the young man's past journalistic activity.
IlCremlin is stepping up censorship by cracking down on independent media and increasingly stifling freedom of the press and every form of dissent.
