An elderly lady wants to catch the S-Bahn with her dog.

She uses the escalator.

Then the shock: "Charlie" caught his tail.

If you don't feel like climbing the stairs or can't use them for health reasons, you can automatically take the escalator to get to the S-Bahn or U-Bahn.

What seems very practical at first glance can, however, become a great danger.

Hair gets caught in it again and again, and trapped items of clothing are not uncommon.

An elderly lady from Munich had this painful experience: her little dog Charlie got stuck with his tail hair.

Attentive passers-by immediately come to the desperate woman's aid, stop the escalator and alert the Munich fire brigade.

They move out with an emergency fire engine to free the poor darling from his predicament, as they then report on their Facebook page.

A four-legged friend that was kept on a balcony also had to be rescued.

While a team takes care of the shocked mistress, the other emergency services get down to work.

With the help of a crowbar, a so-called "Halligan tool", the unlucky little fellow was freed after about 20 minutes.

After this nerve-wracking liberation action, dog and mistress were thoroughly checked again.

The emergency services give the green light and little Charlie can be safely handed over to his owner's arms.

Then they both took the S-Bahn home.

Many animal lovers take part and comment on the post from the Munich fire brigade and write:

  • "The poor ones, that was a total shock for dog and mistress.

    Thank you for your commitment.”

  • “You should never use the escalator with your dog.

The claws can get caught and then be torn out.”

  • "Oh dear get well soon, better take the elevator or carry it."

  • "Especially the older escalators are a danger, because they don't have these "brushes" on the side, which are there to keep shoes and animals away from the side gap."

The Central Register of Pets Tasso eV warns again and again against using an escalator with a dog.

In fact, escalators pose a great danger, especially for four-legged friends, which people and animals are often not aware of.

"For example, the paw can very quickly get caught in the steel attachment at the end of the escalator.

The consequences are usually dramatic.

The animals often lose a claw in great pain, and sometimes a toe has to be amputated on site by the animal rescue service.

"Dogs on an escalator are therefore taboo," appeals animal rights activist and Tasso director Philip McCreight.

His urgent advice: "Small dogs need to be looked after, with large ones you should definitely use normal stairs or the elevator."
