(ANSA) - VENICE, 06 SEPT - Tilda Swinton, one and two: the chameleon-like actress, capable of transforming herself into her characters even physically, identifying herself as she knows how, this time she does it in two, a mother and a daughter and autobiographical references they add further truth.
She is the protagonist of THE ETERNAL DAUGHTER by Joanna Hogg, in competition at Venice 79, a mystery drama set in a large English residence that looks like the set of Downton Abbey or the residence of Thomas Shelby of Peaky Blinders.
Ghosts, strange presences, a suspended and disturbing atmosphere for the protagonist, a director grappling with the writing of the new film, a portrait of her recently dead mother.
"A therapeutic film," said the British actress, her hair painted in yellow ("Proud to represent half of the Ukrainian flag"), speaking of herself and the director, both of whom are motherless.
61 years old, from London, Coppa Volpi in '92 for Edoardo II by Derek Jarman, one of the many films that have seen them together, Oscar in supporting role for Michael Clayton by Tony Gilroy, speaking of the new disturbing and semi-autobiographical film.

"I always look for the same things, friendship, community, that's the way I started working from the very beginning, with Jarman with whom we made 7 films in 9 years, with Luca Guadagnino,

"One of the main drivers of pain is the feeling of having to give up that relationship. And then you realize, if you're lucky, that you can continue it," Swinton said of her daughter character.
They had also done "TheSouvenir" with Hogg, based on her young years with a drug addict boyfriend.
"All my films are personal but this one, I admit, more than others".
She lost her mother in 2012, while her Hogg happened during the filming, "there was an elaboration of everything about her, the courage to break free, to let go".
