"The Lion's Den" (Vox): What exactly is the Latin American street food "MangoMates"?

Mangoes can not only be enjoyed as a sweet snack.

With “The Lion's Den”, a Berlin-based company wants to convince people that something more exotic can also be done.

The Lion's Den is back!

The 12th season of the entertainment show started on Monday, August 29, 2022 on Vox and RTL+.

The third episode will be available next Monday.

Also present this time: a Berlin shop called "MangoMates", which wants to introduce the Germans to a Colombian specialty: mango spaghetti.

Do you love mangoes?

The exotic fruit can almost always be bought from us because it has to be imported.

Depending on the country of origin, it is in season in different months, for example in summer from Pakistan and in winter from Central America.

If you want to enjoy fresh mangoes at home, you should know the trick to spotting a ripe mango when you're shopping.

Or if you are in Berlin and fancy mango, you could stop by “MangoMates”: Dayan Estrada and Marcel Martin sell spaghetti made from the mango fruit there.

The Latin American mango spaghetti is a new type of fruit snack that promises a sweet, sour and salty taste experience.

With their mango spaghetti, the founding duo want to promote the healthy enjoyment of the mango in Germany and give the mango as a fruit a new stage.

The native Colombian and the German met each other during their studies in Australia. "Of course I wanted my boyfriend to get to know my country and my favorite dish from my childhood," says Dayan, and now they want to establish mango spaghetti in Germany as well.

These are traditionally eaten with freshly squeezed lime and salt.

In 2021 they founded "MangoMates" and are currently represented with a shop in a Berlin mall.

They are hoping for an investment of 100,000 euros for 15 percent of the shares in their company in order to be able to open more shops.

Whether the MangoMates meet the taste of the lions?
