In 2021, she was on the Lagoon to defend two films:
Official Competition
, by Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat, and
Madres Paralelas
by Pedro Almodovar, the latter having won her the prize for best actress.
Penélope Cruz was this year the guest of honor at an intimate and cheerful dinner organized by Chanel within the walls of Harry's Bar.
For the occasion, she gave us her "serene" impressions.
Madame Figaro.- In what state of mind did you find Venice this year?
Penelope Cruz.
After all that happened last year, winning an award for Pedro's film and also the superb reception for
Official Competition
, and now to be back with these two films that people seem to love.
It's very moving for all of us to see that.

Can you tell us a word about your role in
L'Immensità
?
I play a woman who tries to survive at home, in a family that does not work.
She feels trapped in a life that does not make her happy.
She feels a very strong connection with her daughter, who also feels trapped in her own body, but for different reasons.
So mother and daughter connect through this malaise.
The only way for them to escape is when they dance and sing together.
The television in their house is like a window, an escape to another dimension.
You're brilliant when you play a mother, are those the most rewarding roles for an actress?
At my age, it makes sense that half or three-quarters of the characters I play are mothers.
It will never be too much.
If we had to make films on a single subject without being tired of this subject, it would be that of the family.
It's endless.
How would you describe your collaboration with Chanel?
I'm very lucky to have had the opportunity to work with Chanel for so many years.
Even Virginie
(Viard, editor's note)
has worked for the brand for thirty years.
So it's like a big family.
I am truly honoured, grateful to work with the team.
