"The Crown" pays homage to its legendary inspiration and, as a sign of respect for the death of Queen Elizabeth,
stops production of the sixth season
of the series centered on her very long reign.
Filming
has been suspended today and will also be on the day of
her funeral, Netflix sources said.
"It's a love letter to her and I have nothing to add for now but my silence", creator Peter Morgan, who is also the author of the film 'The Queen', wrote to the site 'Deadline'. Helen Mirren.
Like Buckingham Palace and the United Kingdom, Netflix also had
plans in store from the start in the event of Elizabeth's death
: "Nobody knows when the time will come - said Stephen Daldry, one of the architects of the series and the director of some early episodes - but the right thing to do will be to pay homage to a global figure. "
"The Crown," which has
won 21 Emmys
(and garnered 63 nominations) since it debuted in 2016, portrays the Queen with three actresses, starting with Claire Foy (three Emmys for the first and second seasons and one for the appearance in flashbacks for the fourth), followed by Olivia Colman (an Emmy last year) and finally Imelda Staunton, in the last two.
Initially, according to what has been leaked, Elisabetta had seen the series and she had especially liked the interpretation of the Foy, but then the tone of the comments of the building had changed and at the turning point of the fourth season both Carlo and his son William would have been " furious "for the emerged portrait of the Royal Family.
Season
five, with Imelda on the throne, is expected to air in November
and it is unclear at this point if the timeline will be met.
In the new cast Jonathan Pryce has the part of Prince Philip, Dominic West is Carlo, Elizabeth Debicki is Diana and Olivia Williams Camilla Parker Bowles.
Elizabeth had seen 15 prime ministers pass in front of her: it was the turn of Jonny Lee Miller to put himself in the role of conservative John Major and Bertie Carvel in those of Tony Blair.
The fifth season should focus on the nineties to arrive at Diana's death in 1997 with a focus also on 1992, Elisabetta's "annus horribilis".
Recently 16-year-old Rufus Kampa
joined the cast for the part of Harry, 21-year-old Ed McVey (William) plus Meg Bellamy
in the part of Kate Middleton
: a clue that the finale will explore the repercussions of the princess's death and the life of the two princes in the early 2000s.
