Great Britain now officially has a new monarch.
On Saturday Charles III.
proclaimed king at St James's Palace in London.
The proclamation followed strict protocol.
First, the monarch was proclaimed king in absentia by the so-called Accession Council.
This assembly includes members of the royal family, current and former members of government and parliament, church officials and other personalities.
Former Prime Ministers such as Boris Johnson, Theresa May and David Cameron were also present.
The proclamation was then signed by those present.
In the second part of the ceremony, the king himself was there.
Charles read a statement.
Then he signed the proclamation.
He also took an oath to guarantee the security of the Protestant religion in Scotland.

The proclamation was then publicly read from the balcony of the palace.

“We call upon Almighty God for mercy on our late Queen Elizabeth II, who is remembered with blessings and glory.
On her death the Crown of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has passed exclusively and lawfully to Prince Charles Philip Arthur George.”
Another reading took place shortly afterwards in front of the London Stock Exchange.
Announcements will follow in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales on Sunday.
