The LION D'ORO of Venice 79 for best film, awarded by the jury chaired by Julianne Moore, was won by ALL THE BEAUTY AND THE BLOODSHED by Laura Poitras (United States).

The film, the only documentary in the competition, tells of the American photographer Nan Goldin and documents her struggle against the Sackler family, owner of the pharmaceutical company Purdue Pharma, believed to be responsible for the opioid epidemic in the United States.

The SILVER LION, Award for Best Director, in Venice 79 was won by Luca Guadagnino for the film BONES AND ALL (United States / Italy).

The LION OF THE FUTURE - Venice first work "Luigi De Laurentiis" award, assigned by the jury chaired by Michelangelo Frammartino, was won by SAINT OMER by Alice Diop (France). 

The SPECIAL JURY PRIZE of Venice 79, chaired by Julianne Moore, was won by THE BEARS NON EXISTONO (No Bears) by Jafar Panahi (Iran), the inmate filmmaker.

The ORIZZONTI AWARD FOR BEST ACTRESS in Venice 79 was won by Vera Gemma in the film VERA by Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel (Austria)

 The male VOLPI CUP in Venice 79 was won by Colin Farrell for THE SPIRITS OF THE ISLAND by Martin McDonagh.

Cate Blanchett won the women's VOLPI CUP in Venice 79 for Todd Field's TAR (United States) 

The MARCELLO MASTROIANNI AWARD to an emerging young actor - actress in Venice 79 was won by actress Taylor Russell for the film BONES AND ALL by Luca Guadagnino (United States / Italy).

"Long live them, long live the subversion and long live the cinema!": Thus Luca Guadagnino, just awarded the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival, dedicated the award to the Iranian directors Mohammad Rasoulof and Mostafa Aleahmad, arrested in their country as Jafar Panahi.
