Ma Terre Challenge on September 17: a tag against waste thrown on the ground

2022-09-11T10:07:52.098Z

Here is the fourth challenge to which we invite you: it will take place on Saturday September 17 in Paris, in partnership with the Surfrid association.

“For an hour and a half, we will write tags on the ground, using a stencil and a white chalk spray.

They make it possible to disseminate awareness messages about waste on land,” says Lionel Cheylus, of the Surfrider Foundation Europe.

He evokes the next challenge launched by his association for the defense of the oceans and Le Parisien.

We invite you to participate in this Clean Tag operation on Saturday September 17, 2022 at 10 a.m.

The meeting is fixed on the place of the Bataille-de-Stalingrad in Paris (Xe).

These erasable messages are called "clean tags".

Near manholes, phrases such as “to throw on the ground is to throw into the sea” will be bombarded.

Because propelled by the wind and the rain, the waste ends up in the oceans and pollutes the waters.

“More of us come to the collections that we organize.

There is therefore necessarily more waste collected.

We also have the feeling that in general the cities are a little cleaner,” explains Lionel Cheylus.

Despite everything, we need volunteers to pick up all the dirt, which we are well aware that they disfigure our streets, our beaches, our green spaces.

The association multiplies the blows to alert on the impact of our bad gestures on the ocean.

Like this brand new Clean Tag challenge, then.

Everyone, as a family, alone, as a couple, with children is invited to participate.

The more of us there are, the more profitable it will be!

A cigarette butt alone pollutes 500 liters of water

In the top 3 of the most recovered waste during Surfrider initiatives, we find drink capsules, cans and cigarettes.

Composed of plastic, the cigarette butt is a real scourge.

“It alone pollutes 500 liters of water.

That's the equivalent of three full bathtubs”, informs Mikaël Grzybowsky, Surfrider co-responsible volunteer.

On Saturday, we can tag this shock formula that marks the spirits.

But why is it so easily "thrown" on the ground and not in the bins provided for this purpose or ashtrays?

“In film and television, we show the public that we can throw it anywhere.

We would not do the same with an empty package of cakes!

he continues.

Beyond raising awareness about the collection of rubbish, it is necessary to ensure the improvement of waste management.

And pay attention to the arrival and proliferation of new waste, such as surgical masks.

"Today, we can only sow a seed in people's minds, so that they question themselves," concludes Mikaël Grzybowsky.

Surfrider will also be present at the Paris Paradis festival that we organize.

On this occasion, on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 September (from 11 a.m.), thanks to quizzes and “practical courses” (how to make your own toothpaste, for example), you will be able to learn more about the protection of the oceans.

The Climate Fresco, also freely accessible, will allow you to better understand the challenges of global warming.

The Kaba will make you discover a multitude of eco-responsible gestures.

In short, during this festival, in addition to stages where artists will perform (paid access), stands (free) will be there if you want to work for our dear planet.

Without forgetting a bicycle repair and maintenance workshop which will be waiting for you at the entrance.
