A package bomb exploded at a university in the US east coast city of Boston, injuring the hands of an employee.
Local police were alerted Tuesday night after the package bomb detonated at Northeastern University.
The 45-year-old employee suffered "minor injuries" to his hand and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Note in package contained criticism of Mark Zuckerberg, according to CNN
The police found a second package, which they rendered harmless.
The FBI got involved in the investigation.
The authorities initially gave no information about a possible motive for the explosive shipment.
It is also not yet known who sent the bomb.
The US news channel CNN, citing police sources, reported that the package contained a note criticizing the head of the meta corporation Mark Zuckerberg and links between academic institutions and virtual reality developers.
Zuckerberg is currently realigning Meta – formerly Facebook: He relies on the so-called “Metaverse”, which is to take place entirely in virtual reality.
Zuckerberg himself studied in Boston, but not at Northeastern University, but at the elite university of Harvard.
He also founded Facebook there.
