Eyes misty and lip trembling, Meghan Markle did not hide her emotion at the coffin of Queen Elizabeth II, Monday, September 19.
Present at the funeral of the late sovereign with her husband, Prince Harry, the Duchess of Sussex even shed a few tears, or rather
a
tear.
"Meghan Markle was spotted wiping away a tear after the Queen's funeral", headlined several daily newspapers in the kingdom ,
including
The Independent
and
The Sun.
The moment was captured by photographers as the coffin was lifted into the hearse just after the funeral ceremony in Westminster Abbey.
The Duchess of Sussex had just let go of her husband's hand, left to join King Charles III and his brother William, and stood alongside Queen Consort Camilla, Kate Middleton and her two eldest children, George and Charlotte.
And it was precisely at this moment that the emotion won over Meghan Markle.

Later, as the coffin was placed in the hearse to start the procession to Wellington Arch, the 41-year-old American was once again photographed with tears in her eyes.
Prince Harry was then at his side.
"Hypocritical"
Despite the mourning that the Windsor clan is going through with the disappearance of Queen Elizabeth II, the emotion of Meghan Markle has not been to the taste of many Britons.
On social networks, criticism of the Duchess burst out: “I find her incredibly hypocritical”, “How much is a tear for Netflix?”… Whether on Twitter or Instagram, everyone goes there of her comment: “Oh the good actress!”

This isn't the first time Meghan Markle has been the target of hateful comments on social media.
The Duchess of Sussex is no longer in the hearts of the British people since the announcement of her retirement from the royal family in January 2020.

Now exiled with Prince Harry and his two children in Los Angeles, the former
Suits
actress also drew the wrath of the English tabloids after giving an interview to Oprah Winfrey in March 2021. A shock interview during which she and her husband had accused the Windsors of racism and Buckingham Palace of negligence.
Since then, the storm has passed but the scar of "Megxit" still seems very much alive.
Meghan Markle can fortunately still count on some support.
“There are no hashtags for Prince Andrew...a man who partied with a sex offender and paid £12m to a victim of sex trafficking.
Instead, people are tearing up a woman who supports her grieving husband,” one Twitter user remarked.
When another laments: “Comments attacking Meghan Markle for shedding a tear at a funeral, as most people do, are simply sickening and racist.
There is nothing this woman can do right in the eyes of her detractors.
This is truly despicable and reprehensible on every level.”
