"The cowardly and inhuman deportation of Roman Jews at the hands of the Nazi-Fascist fury: women, men and children were snatched from life, house by house".

The leader of FdI, Giorgia Meloni

, remembers the roundup of the ghetto of Rome, which took place 79 years ago.

"A horror - he adds in a note - that must be a warning so that certain tragedies do not happen anymore. A memory that we know belongs to all Italians, a memory that serves to build antibodies against indifference and hatred. A memory to continue to fight anti-Semitism in all its forms ".

"October 16, 1943 is a tragic, dark and incurable day for Rome and Italy", is the text of Meloni's note.

"That morning, a few minutes after 5.00, the vile and inhuman deportation of Roman Jews at the hands of the Nazi-Fascist fury: women, men and children were snatched from life, house by house. More than a thousand people were deported and of them only fifteen men and a woman returned. None of the children. A horror that must be a warning so that certain tragedies never happen again. A memory that we know belongs to all Italians, a memory that serves to build antibodies against indifference and hatred. . A memory to continue to fight anti-Semitism in all its forms ", concludes the text.

Meloni and the president of the Jewish community of Rome,

- we learn - they heard by phone this morning.

During the call, the FDI leader expressed closeness and support on the day of the anniversary of the sweeping of the ghetto of the capital in 1943.

"The sweep of the ghetto of Rome represents one of the darkest pages in our history. That day, over a thousand people including women, men and children were torn from their affections and deported to the Auschwitz extermination camp. Only 16 of them returned ".

This was stated

by the president of the Senate, Ignazio La Russa

.

"It is everyone's task, starting with the highest institutions, to pass on the memory so that similar tragedies will never be repeated in the future. To the Jewish community, today as always, my sincere closeness", he concludes.

"What happened at dawn on October 16, 1943 represents one of the darkest, saddest and most gruesome pages in the history of our country. More than a thousand Jews, with over 200 children, were victims of the Nazi ferocity that tore away lives by raiding the house for home. The black Saturday of the ghetto of Rome must represent an indelible memory so that such horrors never happen again. It is the duty of the Institutions to always keep the memory alive in order to counteract any form of racism and anti-Semitism ".

This was stated

by the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Lorenzo Fontana

.

"The roundup of the ghetto of Rome will always be a dark and indelible page in our history. In addition to our memory and our solidarity with the Jewish community, we must guarantee the commitment so that certain horrors do not repeat themselves. Anti-Semitism must never be undervalued or - worse - tolerated ".

Thus

the leader of the Lega Matteo Salvini

in a note, recalling the roundup of the ghetto of Rome on October 16, 1943.

"The roundup in Rome in the Ghetto and deportation to Auschwitz survived in 16 October 1943".

writes on Twitter

.

"On October 16, 1943, the Nazi-Fascist troops rounded up and deported to the concentration camp of Auschwitz over a thousand men, women and children who lived in the Ghetto of Rome. A lacerating wound for the city and for the entire country, a black page of the our history that can never be erased ".

The

leader of the M5s, Giuseppe Conte writes

, on Facebook, on the anniversary of the roundup of the ghetto of Rome.

"This anniversary does not challenge us to a mere exercise of remembrance. If anything, it is a warning - adds Conte - so that in the institutions and in our squares and in our streets the guard is never lowered against a cultural revenge that winks at old nostalgia. So that values may anti-fascists of our constitutional order never again be threatened by subversive demagogy. It is a commitment that we must all fulfill together. We have a moral duty, as citizens and as a national community, to collect it, guard it and leave it as a dowry to those who will come after us " .

Dureghello, today more than ever a significant anniversary

- "Today more than ever this anniversary becomes significant and important, just as the presence of the institutions by our side this year was significant".

This was stated by Ruth Dureghello, president of the Jewish Community of Rome, at the ceremony at the Tempio Maggiore, on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the raiding of the Ghetto and the deportation of Roman citizens of the Jewish religion.

"An important anniversary was that of the round-up of the Jews from the city of Rome, because it was in the whole city that they went to take them, snatching them from their homes and their loved ones - stressed Dureghello -. After so many years it is even more significant to remember not only the memory, but the

"October 16, 1943 is the date on which we remember the first Nazi-Fascist deportation of Roman Jews. Men, women and children torn from their homes and sent to die. Keeping the memory alive is a moral imperative that serves to extinguish the sirens of hatred and fanaticism ", writes Dureghello on twitter.
