The four essential oils essential against the common cold

The cold season is slowly approaching, and with it, its share of viruses. Both prevent and heal naturally, thanks to essential oils and some advice from specialists.


The common cold is an (too) frequent, usually mild, infection of the nose and throat by a virus.

However, plants have developed properties to get rid of it quickly and well.

Pierre Albano Moretti, doctor of pharmacy in Corsica, gives us the secrets of four essential oils to be used individually or in combination, in case of severe colds.

Ravintsara essential oil

Ravintsara oil (from its Latin name

cinnamomum camphora ct cineole

) is a powerful anti-viral, effective against colds, nasopharyngitis, sinusitis, flu but also against herpes, shingles or viral hepatitis.

It helps to protect against affections of the ENT sphere, because it quickly expels mucus.

It is well tolerated by the skin, even in its pure state, with very low risk of allergy or reaction.

Instructions for use:

two drops in honey, olive oil or on a sugar three times a day orally.

In children from 3 years old, as soon as the cold starts, mix two drops in vegetable oil and massage under the arch of the foot or on the inside of the wrists.

If the cold is installed, go to a friction in the morning on the plexus, on the back in the afternoon and again on the thorax in the evening.

Put two to three drops in pure form on the inside of the wrists in the morning for prevention if those around you are already affected by colds.

It can also be combined with niaouli essential oil.


Contraindications:

it will not be used in epileptics or pregnant women.

Niaouli essential oil

Niaouli essential oil (from its Latin name

melaleuca quinquernevia ct cineole

) is particularly effective against bacterial or viral respiratory infections (bronchitis, colds, sinusitis, pharyngitis) but also during the onset of a wet cough because it will quickly relieve the paths.

Instructions for use:

orally, 3 drops three times a day in honey, olive oil, or on a sugar, to keep under the tongue in case of respiratory infections and colds.

On the skin, mix 3 drops with a neutral vegetable oil (apricot kernel type) on the chest or back, alternately, three times a day.

It can also be used in inhalation (close your eyes well while breathing) or in diffusion in a room.


Contraindication:

do not use in epileptics, children or pregnant women.

Balsam fir essential oil

Balsam fir oil (from its Latin name

abies balsamea ct beta-pinene

) is very effective in its antiseptic effect which frees the respiratory tract.

It is used in particular to overcome a cold, sinusitis, bronchitis or a bad cough.

Instructions for use:

rub three drops on the chest diluted in a vegetable oil of hazelnut (or neutral).

By mouth, take two drops a day on a sugar, in olive oil or honey.

In children from 7 years old, count 3 drops per day in three oral doses.

For adults only, it can be used by inhalation (2-3 drops on a handkerchief), by diffusion in a room or in the bath, mixed with a neutral base.


Contraindication :

it must be diluted to 20% in vegetable oil before application to the skin, it can irritate.

Do a test at the bend of the elbow before use.

Do not use in children under 3 years old on the skin, or in children under 7 years old orally.

People with asthma should not use it orally, and it is not recommended for epileptics and pregnant women.

Palmarosa essential oil

Palmarosa oil (in Latin

cymbopogon martini var. motia

) combines a soothing effect and a sweet smell of rose.

It is an ideal weapon during a viral infection followed by a bacterial infection: congested nose, sinusitis, bronchitis, nasopharyngitis or otitis.

It also has the advantage of fighting fatigue and stress.


Instructions for use:

on children from 3 to 7 years old, a cutaneous application three times a day in friction (2-3 drops in a neutral vegetable oil) on the thorax in the morning, the back at noon and again the thorax the evening.

In adults, orally, 2-3 drops morning, noon and evening on a sugar, in olive oil or honey.

It can be mixed with the previous oils for even more efficiency.


Contraindication :

not for use by pregnant women.
