The team of Sahnaya School for Outstanding Students in Damascus Countryside won the first place in the football championship, as part of an event organized today by the Russian Federation and the Social Foundation for Veterans of War “Brothers of Fighting”, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, at Al-Fayhaa Sports Hall in Damascus.
Five sports teams participated in the tournament, which was held on the sidelines of the fifth Syrian-Russian joint meeting to follow up on the international conference on the return of Syrian refugees and displaced persons, from “Sons of the Martyrs”, “Al-Basil for Outstanding Students in Damascus”, “Al-Asia Special”, “Excellent in Sahnaya” and “Dar Al-Aman in Tartous” schools. It is one of the schools that teaches the Russian language to its students.
During honoring the winning teams in the first three places, the Minister of Education, Dr. Darem Tabbaa, explained that the participating teams included students of different categories, including the sons of martyrs and outstanding, and others residing in social care homes, which is a friendly tournament to discover and support talents, in addition to strengthening cooperation with the Russian Federation in the educational and sports fields. .
For his part, Deputy Director of Foreign Economic and International Relations in the Moscow government “Igor Polikarpovich Tkach” confirmed the continuity of support for these teams by holding tournaments with students from Russian schools, to exchange experiences and encourage sports talents in the two countries, explaining that preparations are being made to hold a sports championship in Moscow in December. Next, the Syrian teams winning the first three places in this tournament will participate.
Head of the Department of Physical Education at the Ministry, Dr. Abdul Hamid Zarir, pointed to the importance of the effectiveness in developing students' skills and encouraging them, praising the Russian initiative to hold such tournaments at the school level and to enhance cooperation between the two countries, as Moscow provided all sports supplies to the participating teams.
A number of students believed that their participation created an atmosphere of competition to test their skills, as “Ali Hamdan from the Schools of the Sons of the Martyrs” and “Serge Daoud from the Al-Asiya School” expressed their hope to participate with school teams in Russia, thanking the organizers of this championship.
