A 78-year-old woman was killed in Bavaria in a violent altercation with her son.
The 52-year-old son was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, the police said on Monday evening.
According to previous knowledge, the two would have seriously injured each other with sharp objects - probably knives - it said.
The mother succumbed to her injuries on site in Gunzenhausen.
The Ansbach Murder Commission took over the investigation.
Exact details of the course of events in the jointly inhabited single-family house have not yet been released.
However, the police assume that the son and mother got into an argument and this escalated.
It was unclear what the dispute was about.
According to the information, a neighbor to whom the son had gone after the argument dialed the emergency call.
