Milan third in Europe for the number of major events

Milan is becoming more and more international and attractive also with regard to major trade fairs, associations and sports. The city has in fact gained an important position compared to 2019, taking third place among the destinations that also in 2021 remained at the top of the European ranking by number of events with at least 1000 participants. Milan is becoming more and more international and attractive also with regard to major trade fairs, associations and sports.

The city has in fact gained an important position compared to 2019, taking third place among the destinations that also in 2021 remained at the top of the European ranking by number of events with at least 1000 participants.

This was revealed by a study promoted by the Fiera Milano Foundation and carried out by the Graduate School Aseri, High School of Economics and International Relations of the Catholic University of Milan, presented during the 'Milan Ambassador Program', the annual event of the YesMilano Convention Bureau which the goal of creating a moment of discussion on the positioning of the city as an ideal destination for organizing major events.

The project is carried out by Promos Italia for the Milan, Monza and Brianza, Lodi Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with YesMilano Convention Bureau and the Municipality of Milan.

"Despite the two years of Covid, Milan has not exhausted the propulsive thrust generated by Expo 2015 - commented Enrica Baccini, manager of the Centro Studi Fondazione Fiera Milano -, so much so that it has an even greater appeal than in 2019. It is one of the most attractive cities in Italy. 'Europe that deploys a great and modern capacity to welcome ”.

In addition, the Fiera and its Congress Center in Milan host trade fairs, congresses and conferences that generate an induced amount of around 8 billion in Lombardy.

Milan currently occupies the second position for events relating to the Technology, Economics and Commerce fields, the fourth for events related to Management and the fifth for those dedicated to Medical Sciences and Industry.

The study also recorded a significant positioning of Milan also as a destination for events in the field of human sciences.

The Lombard capital hosted 22% of the total of these events recorded in the eleven cities examined by the study, with particular reference to the Arts sector (40% of the total).

The 'Milan Ambassador Program' took place in Palazzo Giureconsulti, a historic building in the city that houses the offices of Milano & Partners, the city's promotional agency.
