ROME - Apple invites its global supply chain to implement new measures to address its greenhouse gas emissions and adopt a comprehensive approach to decarbonisation by 2030. The company officially announces this in its newsroom and explains that it will evaluate the work of the main partners and will track annual progress.

"The fight against climate change remains one of Apple's most pressing priorities and moments like this embody these words," said CEO Tim Cook.

The Cupertino-based company says that more than 200 suppliers, representing over 70% of Apple's direct spending on production, "have already committed to using clean energy, such as wind or solar, for all Apple production. Major manufacturing partners, including Corning Incorporated, Nitto Denko Corporation, SK hynix, STMicroelectronics, TSMC and Yuto, are committed to powering all Apple manufacturing with 100% renewable energy. "

The company, which has been using renewable energy to power offices, shops and data centers in 44 countries since 2018, intends to "facilitate the construction of large-scale solar and wind power plants in Europe, from 30 to 300 megawatts. European investments are part of the broader strategy to deal with around 22% of the carbon footprint deriving from the electricity consumed by customers to recharge their devices ".

Finally, Apple announces three new projects through the Restore Fund, an initiative that aims to remove CO₂ from the atmosphere while generating a financial return.

It has invested in three high-quality forest managers in Brazil and Paraguay to restore approximately 60,000 hectares of sustainably certified forests and protect approximately 40,000 hectares of forests, grasslands and swamps.

And it has started new partnerships to promote community-based climate solutions around the world: in Namibia and Zimbabwe it collaborates with WWF;

in China with the China Green Carbon Foundation;

in Kenya with Conservation International;

in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa with ChangemakerXchange.
