The encouragement from the royal family should increase attention to the adventure of the British Preet Chandi: She wants to be the first woman to cross Antarctica alone and without support on foot.

Now Princess Kate has taken over the patronage for her project.

"Captain Chandi takes up the challenge to inspire future generations to believe in themselves, to push their limits and to show how nature can help them achieve their dreams," the royal family said.

Kate firmly believes in nature's tremendous impact on human well-being and on skills like confidence and resilience.

1600 kilometers in 75 days

Chandi hiked solo to the South Pole in January.

She wants to start her record attempt at the beginning of November.

She wants to cover the distance of more than 1600 kilometers within 75 days.

Chandi, who serves as a physiotherapist with the British Army, will use a 120-kilogram sled to pull her supplies and equipment.

According to the palace, it will withstand temperatures of minus 50 degrees Celsius and wind speeds of up to almost 100 kilometers per hour.

Apparently, Chandi is not only interested in the sporting challenge: "My goal for this expedition was always to inspire people to push their limits," said the 33-year-old.

She wants to help them believe that nothing is impossible.
