(ANSA) - ROME, OCTOBER 27 - For the 100th anniversary of the March on Rome arrives on October 28 in prime time on Rai3 "The March on Rome, chronicles of 1922", documentary film by Ezio Mauro, produced by Stand by Me and Luce Cinecittà for Rai - Cinema and TV Series Direction.

Through materials from the Istituto Luce and filmed of the time, the author traces the causes and stages that led to the end of democracy in Italy, also giving space to the comments of contemporary historians including Giulia Albanese, David Bidussa and Simona Colarizi.

"It is a work that began in October last year, with a book and then with this documentary - explains Mauro to ANSA -. We went to the key places of these events: PalazzoMarino in Milan, the Quirinale and the Viminale in Rome, Il Vittoriale degli Italiani at Lake Garda, the ancient prison of San Giovanni in Monte and Palazzo d'Accursio in Bologna, Villa delSoldo near Como ".

The documentary reconstructs the months prior to the March.

In what climate did we get there?

"Fascism was very young. It was born in 1919, the year in which it was unable to bring even a deputy to Parliament.

They seemed dead, so much so that the socialists staged a mock funeral on the Avanti.

Instead, in three years the beams multiplied.

We are in the tail of the war, in an age of great turmoil and frustration over a betrayed victory.

There is the fibrillation of a bourgeoisie that fears the Bolsheviks and the restlessness of the middle class that wants to have its part in these changes.

Fascism intercepts this general malaise, exalts the cult of action and the use of violence, causing 4,000 deaths in those years alone ".

Is it possible that an event like that will be repeated today?

"Of course not. Faced with the victory of the right, they are careful not to make analogies. The characters are disproportionate. There is no Mussolini, but not even a Turati, a Sturzo or a Giolitti. But we must remember what opened the way to fascism: a continuous preaching against institutions and democracy. Therefore, the contempt for institutions not only on the right, but also in populism that defines itself as on the left, must alarm. Democracy needs care ".
