Whether barriers on freeways or soup on museum paintings: the drastic forms of climate protest by groups like Extinction Rebellion or Last Generation polarize.
This was also to be debated on the Dutch talk show »Jinek« for the RTL channel – and »Jinek« also invited a representative from Extinction Rebellion, Jelle de Graaf.
However, the activist did not stop at words, but sat down on the TV table surrounded by talk guests – and quickly glued his palms to it.
»You have a duty to report honestly on the climate and environmental crisis.
A duty that you are not fulfilling,« de Graaf accused the moderator Beau van Erven Dorens.
He now wants to talk about climate and ecology, said the activist.
For the moderator, who was supposed to represent the sick hostess Eva Jinek, it should have been a real surprise.
He continued to speak to the activist.
According to the website NLTimes.nl, however, he described the protest as not very sympathetic and civilized because other guests did not have a say.
Fell off the table
After a hiatus, de Graaf was no longer in the studio.
A recording made during this time shows how helpers carry de Graaf out of the studio together with the entire table – and the activist finally falls down.
He was glued, he said.
The man is said not to have been seriously injured in the action.
In retrospect, he justified his protest - and proudly reported on Twitter: »Hunger in Kenya, floods in Pakistan and Nigeria, extreme heat waves: the climate crisis is affecting us and threatening us all.
But governments, companies and the media are carrying on as before.
In order to uncover this absurdity, I glued myself to the table at 'Jinek'.«
Dissatisfaction with forced disturbances, disabilities and damage to property by climate activists has also increased in Germany in the past few days.
Berlin's SPD Senator for the Interior, Iris Spranger, criticized numerous false fire alarms by the groups in public buildings - and announced claims for recourse.
