Arrived in France about ten years ago, the wooden game now has its federation and is growing in popularity, especially in the middle

Two perforated wooden planks and eight small bags filled with corn grain.

These accessories, which form the cornhole game, have been making Mathieu Rivault happy for thirteen years now.

The mason is a fan of this skill game straight from the United States, which has been slowly exported to France for a decade.

So much so that he is one of only four professional players in France.

“What I love about this sport is that everyone can play.

There is no female or male category, everyone is mixed.

“It remains a super friendly and convivial sport”, explains the player, present at the Cornhole French Cup organized at Ground Control, in the 12th arrondissement of Paris on Saturday October 29.

The cornhole is particularly popular with brewers, so three breweries supervised the event.

“With my father we are winegrowers.

We are the only ones in the competition and we intend to beat all the brewers!

jokes Antoine, a participant who has been practicing for a year and a half.

The rules of the game are quite simple.

Two planks with a hole each are arranged opposite each other, at a distance of about eight meters.

Two opponents, side by side, throw four bags each onto the opposite board.

If a bag falls into the hole, it's three points to win.

If it lands in the square, it's a point.

On the ground, it's zero.

Once the eight bags have been thrown, it is the turn of the teammates opposite to throw their bag.

And the sleeves are linked thus until arriving at 21 points.

In each round, the day with the most points scores.

The score is then the difference between his points and those of his opponent.

The game can also be played singles.

For Emmanuelle, commentator of the competition, the cornhole is "democratizing" in France.

She notes a turning point over the past five years with the organization of competitions and the creation of the French Cornhole Federation.

“Today in France, there are around twenty clubs trying to professionalize themselves,” she explains, explaining that the equipment for this sport is now available in major stores and no longer just in specialized stores.
