339 thousand tons of organic fruit and vegetables were consumed in Italy in 2021. 339 thousand tons of organic fruit and vegetables were consumed in Italy in 2021. This is what emerges from the meeting "Opportunities and criticalities on the organic market: the views of the main players" promoted by Cso Italy (Centro Servizi Ortofrutticoli) and Made in Nature, a European organic project funded by the European Union.

On the podium of Italian organic fruit and vegetables, "carrots and potatoes stand out, but there is also an exponential growth of courgettes with + 70% and strawberries with + 34% in the organic market".

In 2021 - a note informs - Denmark remains stable in first place in the consumption of organic fruit and vegetables, the Germans consumed about 811 thousand tons, the French market is growing like the conventional one, registering a + 4.9% ".



In detail - analysts point out "Denmark is confirmed as the country in first place with a share of 13%, fruit and vegetables represent about 37% of the total organic market (Statistics Demark)", while "in France during 2020 the 'increase was equal to that of total fresh fruit and vegetables, or + 4.9% compared to 2019 in volume (France Agrimer) ".



"Excellent result in Germany where the consumption of organic fruit and vegetables rose by 46% from 2017 to 2021 (Cso Italy)".



"Despite - declares Paolo Bruni, president of Cso Italy - a slight decrease compared to the conventional one, the organic sector in Italy and in the rest of Europe is holding up well also thanks to the contribution of the Made in Nature project which promotes the values ​​of organic in the Old Continent" .
