A man from the US state of Alabama has apparently lived on the campus of the US elite Stanford University in California for almost ten months and posed as a student.

He slept in a dorm room.

Well-meaning residents are said to have repeatedly opened the door for him.

This is reported by several US media, including the Los Angeles Times and the San Francisco Chronicle.

When asked, he is said to have claimed to be a student at Stanford – along with a whole, probably fabricated biography: He is said to have told students in the dormitory that he was in a preparatory course for medical school.

Also, since 2020, he has been selected for the university's track and field team.

Security should have known about it

Now, according to reports, he has been caught – when he was probably trying to steal a television in a dorm.

In the past, the man named William Curry is said to have been noticed several times by wanting to break into rooms.

He is also said to have harassed students.

According to media reports, the university's security service is said to have known about the incidents.

So far, however, it has never been possible to find the man.

The university actually ensures that unauthorized persons cannot stay on campus, said a spokesman for the elite university.

The security mechanisms will now be checked immediately.
