The comic version was considered unfilmable: In August, the fantasy series »Sandman« was launched on Netflix – and was a success there. But even one of the screenwriters initially had his doubts about a sequel.

For a long time, »The Sandman« was only known as a comic series.

An eleven-episode first season began streaming on Netflix in early August.

Now "Sandman" author and producer Neil Gaiman confirmed in a tweet that a sequel is planned for the fantasy series: "The rumors are true," it says there.

"Netflix is thrilled that so many of you have seen Sandman, and what we were all hoping for... actually happened..."

An official statement from Netflix said the series was entering a second season with the collaboration of Gaiman and co-writers Allan Heinberg and David Goyer.

In the next few episodes, it is planned to "dive further" into the conflict between Dream (Tom Sturridge) and his enemies.

The streaming service did not announce a date for the planned release.

As recently as August, Gaiman had expressed doubts as to whether there would be another season: "Sandman" was a "really expensive series," the author wrote on Twitter.

In order for Netflix to release the money for another series, he and his team would have to "do incredibly well".

Despite high viewer ratings, it could therefore "still not be enough".

The Netflix series »Sandman« is based on the comic series of the same name by Neil Gaiman, which appeared in more than 70 issues from 1989 to 1996.

The film adaptation could be seen on Netflix from the beginning of August 2022.

Within a few hours, the fantasy series was number one according to Netflix and stayed there for several days in the global top ten.
