Aldi Süd could soon open its first online shop for groceries.
The concept is already being tested in the USA.

Whether fresh fruit and vegetables, packaged pasta or drinks, many delivery services such as Gorillas or Flink have specialized in groceries.
Supermarkets such as Rewe or Edeka also offer a delivery service.
In addition, Aldi Süd launched a web shop for groceries in the USA.
The discounter could apparently soon offer this service in Germany as well.

learned from business circles.
Aldi Süd should start with the new offer in the first half of 2023.
So far, Aldi Süd and Aldi Nord have offered an online shop with non-food items.
In the USA, a web shop has been tested for a few weeks and operated together with the delivery partner "Instacart".

With the help of Spryker software that has been tested in the USA, Aldi Süd wants to operate online trade in Germany.
The discounter wants to operate the developed platform in all international markets.
According to Handelsblatt information, Aldi is said to have advertised around 50 positions for e-commerce specialists at its headquarters.
Aldi Süd has not yet commented on the plans.
Aldi Süd offers delivery service in the USA
Stefan Kopp, spokesman for the board of directors of Aldi Süd, told
the
Lebensmittelzeitung that events on the market are being followed.
"Like all market participants, we have always observed developments on the market and carry out daily test runs in different areas around the world," says Kropp.
Examples do not only come from the USA.
In Great Britain, customers can assemble and pay for their goods online.
The products still have to be collected from the store independently.
A system similar to that in the USA is being tested in Switzerland.
In corporate circles, however, the only question to be asked is when the web shop should come.
Selling online also comes with a risk.
Because you don't earn anything in Germany with the online trade of fresh food.
In addition, there is an increased risk that sales in the branches will fall.
Companies like Aldi Süd, with its almost 2,000 branches, cannot afford such losses because the additional costs of energy and product prices have to be contained.
In countries like the USA, the risk is not nearly as great.
Aldi Süd has almost as many branches there as in Germany, which is few due to the size of the USA.
The presence of the discounter is significantly lower.
There, the chance of winning new customers with the online offer prevails.
Aldi Süd has also shown itself to be an innovative discounter in the past.
In 2022, for example, he opened his first cashless branch in Great Britain.
