The new reign of arranger-composers

Like Arthur Lavandier, guest of the Nouveaux Horizons festival in Aix-en-Provence, a new generation is reviving the world of classics… and gaining institutional recognition with the status of creators.


The composition?

“I never made the difference between the latter and my work as an arranger!”

warns Arthur Lavandier.

At 35, the musician was one of the ten guest composers of the New Horizons festival, which takes place until Sunday at the Darius-Milhaud conservatory in Aix-en-Provence.

A chamber music immersion in the diversity and vitality of young contemporary musical creation, orchestrated by Renaud Capuçon and violist Gérard Caussé, with the director of the Grand Théâtre de Provence, Dominique Bluzet.

“An honor and a challenge

,” continues Lavandier, a touch of pride in his voice.

His last piece,

Incantation des amants

, for viola and ensemble of three violins, given in world premiere on November 4 with Gérard Caussé on the viola, deploys an unusual sound universe.

Playing on quarter tones and the natural harmonics of open strings.
