Stay cool: reporter Nicolas Krumm
The conditions were basically the best for live reporting: the sun was shining in La Reina, Chile, and no thick jackets or raincoats were needed.
And yet it was not a particularly friendly moment for Nicolas Krumm.
Because: When the reporter from the Chilevision broadcaster stood in front of the camera and spoke into the microphone, an uninvited guest joined them.
Reporters know this: Going live is always unpredictable.
People demonstrating in the background, celebrating (and often drunk) football fans around you – this creates an atmosphere, but can also quickly become problematic.
So last Wednesday Krumm was reporting live from a normally quiet suburb of the Chilean capital Santiago de Chile, where the number of robberies has increased, according to the report, when a parrot suddenly landed on his shoulder.
Krumm was undeterred and continued to talk about the increase in thefts when, as if on cue, the parrot pecked the headphones out of his left ear – and flew away.
Here you can see the scene in the video:
Krumm finished his contribution professionally.
The cameraman then set out to catch the thief and his stolen goods.
But the parrot flew away.
Unlike the many robberies in La Reina, this story had a happy ending.
Krumm later reported that the parrot eventually dropped the headphones.
The bird was probably more interested in food than in stolen goods.
