With his quick-witted actions, a ten-year-old may have prevented a serious traffic accident in Hanover: The boy was traveling with his great-uncle on the Messeschnellweg when the 66-year-old lost consciousness "due to illness" and thus lost control of his car, the police report .
The boy recognized the "threatening situation" and grabbed the steering wheel.
As a result, the child was able to keep the vehicle on the road, but because of the uncontrolled acceleration (up to 150 km/h) it drove over both lanes and the hard shoulder.
After all, he was able to steer the car onto an exit from the passenger seat.
Drive around delineators and concrete bases
According to the police, a truck driver noticed the conspicuous driving style, had to brake hard and then drove his tractor unit next to the car so that it did not get back on the road.
The ten-year-old then managed, among other things, to drive around a delineator post and a concrete base before the vehicle came to a stop on the embankment.
The 44-year-old truck driver, together with other road users, freed the child and the 66-year-old from the accident vehicle and provided first aid until the rescue workers arrived.
The boy was slightly injured but did not require medical treatment.
He was handed over to his mother by the police.
The 66-year-old great-uncle was taken to a hospital.
He is being investigated for negligent bodily harm.
