Help in the energy crisis: Hollywood star Kate Winslet has given a family in Scotland financial support.
For the Tillicoultry family's energy bill, Winslet paid £17,000 (€19,400), according to the PA news agency.
Carolynne Hunter (49) had started a fundraiser because she can no longer pay the energy prices to care for her daughter.
Twelve-year-old Freya is blind, unable to communicate and requires 24-hour home care and oxygen.
Energy bill doubled
The family says they face a bill of more than £17,000 for 2023 because of the price increases for electricity and gas, almost doubling.
The donation has already exceeded the target of £20,000.
'I burst into tears when I heard about the money,' the mother told the BBC.
Later this year, the British broadcaster Channel 4 wants to show the film "I am Ruth", in which Winslet plays alongside her daughter Mia Threapleton (22).
Winslet, who won an Oscar for The Reader, also co-wrote the film.
It is about mentally ill young people.
