The US singer Roberta Flack, 85, who became famous worldwide with the song »Killing Me Softly With His Song«, can no longer sing because of ALS.
ALS is a progressive disease of the central nervous system.
The singer's nervous system was suffering from this previously incurable degenerative disease, said a spokeswoman for the singer on Monday of the German Press Agency in New York, thereby confirming corresponding media reports.
Flack, born in 1937, became world famous in the 1970s with hits like "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" and "Killing Me Softly With His Song".
A documentary about Flack entitled »Roberta« is scheduled to premiere at a documentary film festival in New York this week.
