His arrest had prompted Emmanuel Macron to position himself on the issue of the end of life.

During a walkabout on March 31, Guy, 63, had quickly exchanged with the future president, traveling to Fouras in Charente-Maritime, as part of the electoral campaign.

The man then explained to him that he suffered from Charcot's disease, a neurodegenerative pathology which results in a progressive paralysis of the motor and then respiratory muscles.

Guy and his companion Pascal had told the president of his dismay at the lack of a policy authorizing euthanasia in France.

The couple then told him of their intention to go to Belgium so that Guy could resort to the arrangements allowing him to end his life legally.

On this occasion, the Head of State campaigning for his re-election had assured that he was “in favor of moving towards the Belgian model.

As he had planned, the sexagenarian did benefit from euthanasia in the neighboring country, three months ago, indicates this Monday RTL.

"His start was great," Pascal told the radio microphone, explaining that his companion's illness had worsened in recent months.

“He left surrounded by his children, their spouses, his brother, me.

The only constraint is that we had to go to Belgium,” he insisted.

"I Won't Forget Guy"

Upon learning of his death, the head of state had, according to RTL, sent a letter to his companion.

“I will not forget Guy, nor his memory, nor his fight.

You can count on me,” he said.

Since then, Pascal, an activist from the Association for the Right to Die with Dignity, has called on the Head of State not to give in to “pressure” from opponents of a “free and chosen” end of life.

“We all remembered Mitterrand and the death penalty, Giscard and abortion, Holland and Marriage for All.

The trace he must leave with his five-year term is not that of the yellow vests, but that of the right to die with dignity,” he defended on RTL on Monday.

Last October, the Head of State announced the holding of a Citizens' Convention on the end of life aimed at bringing together 150 French people drawn by lot in order to propose adjustments to the current law.

Ultimately, their work could lead to legislative change and the authorization of “active assistance in dying” within a very strict framework.

“At the end of the consultation, Emmanuel Macron will certainly remember his meeting with Guy.

I think he recorded his look and his request, ”Pascal still hopes.
