But why the hell do we often see a dinosaur walking around in Egypt these days? At the foot of the pyramids in Cairo but also in the trav

Frankie the dinosaur, the mascot imagined by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), is currently in Egypt for COP27, the world climate conference, which is held until Friday in Sharm el-Sheikh.

He appeared in a widely viral video on Tuesday afternoon posing in front of Cairo's famous pyramids and the Sphinx.

Around his neck, a sign: "Don't choose extinction

"

.

Frankie also tweeted: “Come on humans, you can do it!

adding that there was "no time to lose" before we see him one last time at the Pavillon de la Nature.

Last year, the velociraptor, which has more than 10,500 Twitter followers, was invited to the UN forum, already asking world leaders to “not choose extinction”.

#COP27 is now underway.

Come on humans.

You can do it!

There is lots to do and no time to loose.

After gently frightening the public, the dinosaur had denounced the 423 billion dollars of public funds spent each year to subsidize fossil fuels.

Last month, we also saw him roar for the climate, on the famous Time Square in New York.

It is that in the meantime, the situation he denounced has not improved so much.

Carbon neutrality incompatible with investments in fossil fuels

While investments in renewables have grown for the fourth year in a row in 2021, reaching $366 billion (351 billion euros), many states continue to massively subsidize operations related to gas, oil or coal. ., while at the same time reducing, for some, their support for clean energy.

Most of the commitments to carbon neutrality of companies, cities or regions do not live up to the recent recommendations of the UN group of experts dedicated to this issue, according to an analysis published this Tuesday at COP27.

"Carbon neutrality pledges don't all have to be the same, but most lack the most basic details to be able to be implemented," says the Net Zero Tracker.

The platform, which brings together several research centers, reviewed the commitments of companies, cities and regions, in the light of the report of the UN group of experts which, last week, traced the " red lines” against the greenwashing of private actors.

According to them,

a commitment to carbon neutrality is incompatible with investments in fossil fuels or activities leading to deforestation.

And the purchase of carbon credits to offset emissions cannot replace the effective reduction of these emissions.
