Unemployment insurance: contribution is expected to increase from January 2023

The unemployment insurance rate was reduced to 2.4 percent for a limited period.
From January 2023, the contribution rate will be 2.6 percent again.
At the turn of the year there are again many changes that are coming to the citizens of the country.
For example, employers have to pay more attention to employment contracts because of the Proof Act.
The contribution rate for unemployment insurance is also rising again.

What is unemployment insurance?
The aim of unemployment insurance is to secure the income of jobseekers.
As a benefit, the unemployed receive a wage replacement for basic security in the form of unemployment benefits.
The provisions on unemployment insurance are regulated in the Third Social Code (SGB III).
Unemployment insurance is one of the social insurances in Germany.
This is mandatory for all employees.
The self-employed, civil servants and mini-jobbers are exempt.

Unemployment insurance increases in East and West jurisdictions
As of January 1, 2023, the assessment limits (BBG) in the legal districts of East and West in pension and unemployment insurance will increase.
The increase in the contribution assessment limits and the contribution rate for unemployment insurance means that employers and employees are burdened more.

That was currently 1.3 percent each.
For BBG/West in 2023, this means that employees and employers each pay EUR 94.90.
(Calculation: 7,050 euros times 1.3 percent divided by 100).
