Bocconi University celebrates 120 years and greets the president Mario Monti, who hands over the baton to his deputy Andrea Sironi,
former rector of the University and president of Generali.
The official ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the President of the Senate Ignazio La Russa.
To welcome them, among others, the deputy mayor of Milan, Anna Scavuzzo, as the mayor Beppe Sala was busy with the ceremony of the delivery of the Ambrogini d'Oro.
The Lombard governor Attilio Fontana, the vice premier and foreign minister Antonio Tajani, the university minister Anna Maria Bernini, the former premiers Giuliano Amato and Romano Prodi and the executive vice president and managing director of Pirelli Marco Tronchetti Provera were present.
Among the politicians who joined the Milanese Arteneo were Pier Ferdinando Casini, Massimo D'Alema and Giuliano Amato.
"Mario Monti represented, and represents, an exemplary story as an economic scientist; as an educator, as was testified by the student; as an Italian and international statesman; who strongly marked, in delicate passages, the life of our country, of the continent and the international dimension, as recalled by the President von der Leyen, by the director Ferruccio De Bortoli, the rector Billari, professor Tabellini, the new president professor Sironi, to whom I send my best wishes".

"Mario Monti's cultural, scientific and research contribution is so significant as to induce Bocconi to give life - as has been announced - to a new international institute, dedicated to European Policy-making. A commitment, therefore, that of professor Monti, who - adds Mattarella - will not fail either at Bocconi or, even less, in support of the Italian and European institutions".

The Republic is grateful to him.
