Who doesn't know that, as soon as the pomegranate is open, it spreads its red splashes all over the worktop.

That's easy to avoid.

Some reach for pomegranate seeds in the supermarket to avoid the chaos of stains in the kitchen and on clothing.

Others choose the water method to free the submerged fruit from the pits.

However, some of the wonderful pomegranate juice is lost in the process, which is very good in salad dressing.

With a different technique, the whole thing becomes a clean and quick affair.

If you want to expertly pit a pomegranate, you have the choice between a thorough, clean method and one that delivers a particularly quick result without splashes.

All you need is a heavier knife, a large spoon or another kitchen tool that is not too light.

And a bowl.

For the particularly fast technique, place the bowl in the sink.

Then you cut the pomegranate in half, hold it with the round side up directly over the bowl and break the fruit apart slightly at the bottom so that the first of the healthy seeds fall into the bowl.

The next step is to tap the top of the shell with a knife or spoon so that the remaining seeds fall out.

Individual stragglers and white peel remains are sorted out by hand.

If you have a bit more patience, score the upper third of the pomegranate all around with a sharp knife and break off this lid with a little pressure.

Then you remove the white separating skin at the top.

The next step is to cut the pomegranate along the approximately five visible segments down to the bottom and break the parts apart at these points over the bowl in the sink.

Now you can carefully remove the seeds from the fruit with your hands or, if necessary, use a spoon as described above.

Now the way is clear to refine dishes with the fruit, for example for breakfast in pomegranate porridge or a risotto with pomegranate.
