Five non-governmental organizations have suspended operations in Afghanistan after Taliban rulers ordered all NGOs to stop working their female staff.
The latest to announce the suspension was
Christian Aid
, a British charity which "is trying to clarify this announcement and has urged the authorities to lift the ban," the head of programs said in a statement. Global Ray Hasan.
The others are
Save the Children, the Norwegian Refugee Council, Care and the International Rescue Committee
.
The latter provides emergency responses in the health and education sectors and employs 3,000 women across Afghanistan.
