What happens when a fashion anchor, a network influencer, a populist politician and a hit-tastic meet on an island? • "A Well-Written Murder: A Greek Mystery" presents a clumsy and illogical detective story, but it is excellently made and manages to maintain a high level of interest throughout • And, finally, a Hollywood film that expresses an opinion about the world in which we live

Three years after we first met him (and his absurd southern accent), "The World's Best Detective," Benoit Blanc, returned to the screen to prove he still deserves his title in "Well Written Murder: A Greek Mystery."

At the center of the plot this time is a narcissistic billionaire, who, not coincidentally, is very reminiscent of Elon Musk (and played by Edward Norton).

He invites some successful friends to his beautiful private island for a pampering weekend during which they will have to find out who "murdered" him.

The guests who arrive on the island include a big-mouthed fashion mogul (Kate Hudson), a macho network influencer (Dave Battissa) and his partner, a senior scientist working for the billionaire (Leslie Odom Jr.), a populist politician (Kathryn Hahn), and a dispossessed high-tech entrepreneur. In the hands of the billionaire from the company he founded with him (Janelle Monae).

For reasons that are not entirely clear at first, our friend Blank (Daniel Craig) is also among the invitees.

As expected, things don't go exactly according to the billionaire's plans, and soon one of the gang is murdered for real.

Who did that?

and why?

Everyone is suspect, of course, until proven otherwise.

Full of twists and turns.

from the movie,

"Greek Mystery" is a ridiculous, entertaining and intelligent film that wonderfully plays with the expectations of the viewers and with the rules of the genre within which it operates.

Rian Johnson ("Looper", "The Last Jedi"), who also wrote and directed this time, crammed countless twists, surprises and treats into his script, and added a long chain of entertaining guest appearances (Angela Lansbury, Serena Williams ) and random references ("Magnolia", "2010").

The detective story may be clunky and doesn't make much sense, but the non-linear and distraction-filled way in which Johnson tells it ensures that the interest level remains high throughout.

The fact that "Greek Mystery" is one of the only Hollywood films from recent years that dares to correspond with reality and express its opinion about it adds to the great pleasure.

The plot takes place in the early days of the corona epidemic, and besides the delightful way in which he hits Musk, Johnson also includes here quite a few references to other topics and concepts that are in the discourse recently (such as the cancellation culture, for example).

Although none of the ensemble members stand out in particular, they all fully cooperate with Johnson's vision and all give the impression that they are leading crazy lives.

The result is an invested, silly and loaded comedic thriller that only gets better with a second viewing (after you already know the solution to the mystery).

Not a genius by any standards.

But very, very fun.
