Taiwan has decided to extend its compulsory military service from 4 months to one year.
This was announced by President Tsai Ing-wenen, underlining that the island must prepare itself in the face of
growing threats from China
.
"The current military service of 4 months is not enough to respond to the constantly and rapidly changing situation," he said at a press conference.
"We have decided to re-establish one-year military service starting in 2024."
