When traveling or between two appointments: sometimes the mobile phone battery is unexpectedly empty - and there is no power outlet far and wide.

With our three tips you will be well positioned in the future.

You are expecting an urgent call or you have to navigate through a strange city with the map on your smartphone: If the battery is suddenly empty, it can really mess up a day.

Tip 1: Charge the battery in the car – you should always have this with you

In your car you can charge your mobile phone while you are driving.

If you have an older car, you will usually find a cigarette lighter here.

This can be turned into a charger with a USB converter.

The adapter is simply plugged into the open cigarette lighter.

Newer cars have built-in USB ports on the dashboard.

Without a cable, the connection will do you no good.

So keep this tip in mind: Always keep a charging cable for your smartphone in your glove compartment.

So you know: I can charge my mobile phone in the car at any time.

By the way, charging the mobile phone uses relatively little energy, so you usually don't have to worry about your car battery.

Tip 2: Use particularly smart power banks

Many people are familiar with power banks: You charge the devices, which are about the size of a mobile phone, at home – you use the stored energy to charge your smartphone when you are out and about.

But even power banks only have limited storage.

Are you about to make a purchase decision?

These functions make your power bank more reliable:

  • The power bank should have a capacity of at least 10,000 mAh (milliampere hours).

The actual energy delivery of the power bank is always a bit lower: at 10,000 mAh, the real delivery is around 6,000 mAh.

That's enough to charge a smartphone about 1.5 times.

  • How long does it take to charge the power bank?

If you only want to charge the device quickly at home, you need the highest possible electrical current strength.

    At least two amps

    your power bank should have.

In addition to the minimum requirements for your power bank, there are also other possible functions:

  • Do you want your power bank to recharge itself "by itself"?

Then a device with an integrated solar panel makes sense.

These panels are usually quite weak - if only because of their small size.

But at least sunlight is converted into energy here without any action on your part.

All you have to do is place the power bank in a sunny place.

  • In an emergency, would you like to refill the power bank with your own muscle power?

Then you should get a device with a crank.

This also helps at home in the event of power failures: you simply crank for a few minutes and charge the power bank (somewhat).

For a full charge, cranking would take a very long time.

But at least you can easily get a few percent for your mobile phone.

Tip 3: Use your energy on the bike

Another way to use your muscles is with bicycle dynamos.

As with classic bicycle lighting, a dynamo is also mounted on your bicycle here.

This so-called hub dynamo is driven by your pedalling.

Now all you need is a charge controller that converts the energy and transports it to your smartphone.

Keeping a smartphone is also worthwhile for this.

During assembly, make sure that the cables cannot get into your wheels.

This solution is particularly useful for frequent cyclists who also need electricity when cycling - for example when navigating on tours.
