The Vatican Grottoes opened at 9 to allow the faithful to pay homage to the tomb where Benedict XVI was buried.

Ratzinger is buried in the place where John Paul II was buried before his beatification.

On the tombstone the black epigraph with the inscription: "Benedictus PP XVI".

The faithful waited in the basilica for the opening, then many lined up for a prayer in front of the tomb.

Among the first Bernard, arrived from Warsaw: "He's one of the most important Popes in history, he's my Pope, it was important to come here", he says with his voice cracking slightly with emotion.

Then there is Stefania da Portogruaro (Venice): "We are here - she says, also pointing to the people who came with her from the Veneto - because we needed to feel her closeness. Benedict gives us hope".

Among the first faithful who descended into the caves were also three young women from Altamura (Bari): "He is an important Pope for us, we felt the need to be here today".
