(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 18 - In 2022 there were 105,000 arrivals of migrants by sea, 56% more than last year: 1,401 from Algeria, 32,000 from Tunisia (+60%), 53,000 from Libya (+70%). ).. Two flows leave Libya: one from Tripolitania (33,000) and the other from Cyrenaica (20,000).

Then there is the eastern Mediterranean route (Turkey, Egypt, Lebanon and Syria), with 17,000 arrivals. The NGO ships are only active on the route from Cyrenaica to Lampedusa and have rescued over 11,000 people, 34% of those who departed from Tripolitania.

This was stated by Rear Admiral Giuseppe Aulicino, head of Department III - Plans and Operations of the General Command of the Port Authorities, in a hearing with the Joint Commissions for Constitutional Affairs and Transport which is examining the decree with the tightening of NGO ships.
