(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, JAN 18 - Frozen, paste, dried and powdered larvae of the minor mealworm (Alphitobus diaperinus) can be marketed in the EU as a novel food from 26 January.
It is the effect of a regulation proposed by the European Commission and approved by the Member States, published on 5 January.
With the larvae of the lesser mealworm, four insects and their derivatives have received the green light as new food from the European Union after the larvae of the mealworm, locusts and crickets.
The EU Commission has authorized the company Ynsect NL BV to place these larvae on the European market.
