South and islands continue to bring up the rear (ANSA) During 2022, 475,768 new .it domains were registered, for a total of 3,467,693 local domains currently on the Net: 0.50% more than in 2021. During 2022, 475,768 new .it domains were registered, for a total of 3,467,693 local domains currently on the Net: 0.50% more than in 2021. "An inevitably different result from the pandemic effect that had score +2.24% and even +4.20% in 2021 and 2020 respectively".

I announce the .it Registry, an organ of the Iit-Cnr and register of Italian-registered domains, which detects "a year of physiological stagnation for the Italian web, - also represented by the data on new registrations, down by 13% compared to the 2021, but also a great potential for growth and development for the future".

"The 2020 of the lockdowns - explains Marco Conti, head of the .it Registry and director of the Iit-Cnr - was the year of the arrival on the Internet for those who relied on the web to save their business or to start a new one ; 2021 had been the resilient year": "After the boom of the last two years, 2022 could only be a year of physiological stasis".

It can be hypothesized that this year's figure was also influenced by the economic consequences of the latest international events, including the still ongoing health emergency, geopolitical crises and repercussions on consumption.

This is also confirmed by the general decline in the categories that the .it Registry monitors on a monthly basis: between January and October last year, registrations attributed to natural persons, businesses, public bodies and non-profit organizations decreased (-14.5%).

Freelancers are positive (+3.1%) while the unprecedented outsiders are the registrations belonging to the 'foreign' category, i.e. the new .it domains registered by citizens and organizations of other EU countries or by companies with at least one office in the EU: they make up + 66.7%.

Still less than a quarter of the Italians who have registered a .it domain are women and most are between 42 and 49 years old.

The south and the islands continue to be the 'tail light' of digital Italy.
