North Rhine-Westphalia wants to become more effective against climate activists who are stuck on the streets: According to the state's Ministry of the Interior, more than 10,000 police officers are to be trained in the coming days to remove glued hands from the asphalt.
So far, there have only been comparatively few officials who have been deployed nationwide for this purpose.
According to the ministry, the duration of the deployment should be "significantly reduced" and the danger to road users reduced.
"The necessary skills will be taught to the more than 10,000 police officers as part of mandatory digital training starting this week," said the Düsseldorf Ministry of the Interior on Wednesday.
All patrol officers and officers of hundreds are to be trained.
"We get the climate stickers off the street - quickly, efficiently and directly," said Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) of the dpa news agency.
»We have many legitimate forms of protest in our country.
And that's just as well.
But sticking to the streets and trying to paralyze public life for hours is not one of them.«
