These are the places where they hide hidden cameras in hotel rooms (@malwaretech)

This trick is going to change your life (or at least keep your privacy in the hotel room).

A Dutch flight attendant and tic-tac-toker named Ester uploaded a video that has already received about 3.5 million views and almost half a million likes, in which she demonstrates two tricks for discovering a hidden camera that may be hidden in your hotel room.

Both of these tricks can be performed simply using your smartphone.

As we know, hidden cameras in hotel rooms and other resorts cause concern among quite a few travelers.

After all, no one really feels comfortable with the idea that someone might be secretly filming them.

And this may happen especially in vacation apartments where the landlords want to keep track of what is happening on their property.

The small details: this is how you will find out if you are photographed in the Airbnb apartment.

Mirror, mirror on the wall - who is hiding behind you?

In the video she uploaded to TikTok, Esther demonstrates both methods.

The first is a check of the mirrors in the guest room.

To find out if there is something hidden behind them, touch the glass with the tip of your finger and look carefully at what is happening: if there is a space of about a centimeter between your finger and its reflection, then the mirror is doing its job properly.

However, if the finger and the reflection come together, this may raise suspicion.

And if you now suspect that this is some kind of two-way mirror, you can simply turn off the lights in the room, turn on the light of your phone's flashlight and hold it to the face of the mirror.

This way you can find out if there is a room on the other side of it from where you are being watched or photographed.

In her video, Esther moves from the mirrors in the bedroom to the bathroom, where she checks the shower.

In addition, she carefully examines the fire and smoke detector, the television and the curtains using her cellphone's lighting.

Since hidden cameras (like any other camera) have lenses that reflect the light directed towards them, it would be a great idea to turn off the lights in the room, draw the curtains and check the various items in the room using the light of your phone.

This is how you can detect reflections of hidden cameras.

However, keep in mind that this may take some time, since you have to light in all kinds of directions.

The reason: the reflection only happens when the light you direct hits the hidden camera lens at the right angle.

Practice with the TV remote

The Mirror website further adds that there are hidden cameras that use infrared lighting to take pictures in the dark.

This type of lighting is not visible to the human eye, but can be detected by the phone.

According to Kaspersky security experts, "When taking pictures in the dark, the infrared light source will appear on the screen as a dot that looks like it is pulsating."

It should be remembered that the main camera of the smartphone may not do the job well because most of them have an infrared light filter, so it is recommended to do this with the front camera (the one used for selfies).

"To practice and check whether your smartphone is suitable for the task, you can try it on the TV remote, which also emits infrared light," suggest the experts.

"And if your phone cannot activate the camera and flashlight at the same time, a separate flashlight should be used."
