Prince Andrew did not receive a public greeting from the palace on his 63rd birthday.
On the official Royal Family Twitter account, which is otherwise used to congratulate members of the royal family, there was no entry on King Charles III's brother until Sunday afternoon.
The palace and the government had already distanced themselves last year.
On Sunday, the Sun tabloid reported that Andrew could soon lose his royal residence in the grounds of Windsor Castle.
Charles wants to cancel his brother's annual subsidy of around 280,000 euros from April.
This left Andrew without the funds for the expensive upkeep of the Royal Lodge, where he lives with his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson.
That would leave him with nothing but his pension from his time in the Royal Navy.
"It feels like his brother wants to evict him," the paper quoted a source as saying.
Several media had previously reported that Andrew was no longer allowed to maintain a study at Buckingham Palace.
Andrew hardly plays a role in public because of his involvement in an abuse scandal.
A year ago, he agreed to a settlement with an American woman who accused him of repeatedly sexually abusing her as a minor, and thus averted a reputation-damaging civil lawsuit in the United States.
The Queen, who died in September, had stripped her second son of his military ranks and patronage.
